  1. 1. Clinical applications of acoustophoresis in blood based diagnostics

    Författare :Klara Petersson; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acoustophoresis; Acoustofluidics; Ultrasound; Microfluidics; Blood; Blood Separation; Blood plasma; Lab-on-a-chip; Point-of-care; Blood diagnostics;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, acoustofluidics has been used to process blood samples as a sample preparation step prior to biomarker detection. This is often required as the large amount of blood cells otherwise can interfere with the detection method. Acoustofluidics means moving particles or cells with acoustic forces within microfluidic channels. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Force of Blood : Epidemiological studies of blood pressure in stroke, atrial fibrillation and primary care

    Författare :Johan-Emil Bager; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; blood pressure; hypertension; stroke; myocardial infarction; atrial fibrillation; anticoagulants; LDL cholesterol; primary health care;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The overarching aim of this thesis was to investigate the prevalence, temporal trends and associations to cardiovascular outcomes of blood pressure levels in patients in Västra Götaland. Methods and findings: In Study I, Cox regression analysis was used to investigate associations between blood pressure and mortality in 799 patients with acute ischemic stroke who were identified in the quality register of a stroke ward at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. 3. 3. Heritability of blood pressure: monogenes and polygenes

    Författare :Cristiano Fava; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; kidney; Adducin-1; CLC-kb; Gitelman syndrome; association; heritabilty; genetics; hypertension; Blood pressure; blood pressure variability; Medicin människa och djur ; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : High blood pressure (BP) is associated with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Both genetic and environmental factors are implicated in BP homeostatsis and hypertension development. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Blood pressure in advanced age : with focus on epidemiology, cognitive impairment and mortality

    Författare :Lena Molander; Hugo Lövheim; Yngve Gustafson; Miia Kivipelto; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood pressure; hypertension; very old; mortality; epidemiology; cognitive impairment; dementia; Blodtryck; hypertoni; mycket gamla; dödlighet; epidemiologi; demens; Geriatrics and medical gerontology; Geriatrik och medicinsk gerontologi; geriatrik; Geriatrics; Epidemiology; epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The general conception is that blood pressure increases with age, but that diastolic blood pressure (DBP) starts decreasing in the elderly. There are, however, indications that systolic blood pressure (SBP) might also decline in advanced age, but further studies are needed to establish whether this is true. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Hypertension, blood pressure, cognition and cerebral blood flow in the cohort of "Men born 1914"

    Författare :Faina Reinprecht; Geriatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; samhällsmedicin; Social medicine; Socialmedicin; Gerontologi; Gerontology; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neurophysiology; Neurologi; regional cerebral blood flow; cohort study; Neurology; neuropsychology; blood pressure; blood pressure monitoring; risk factors; Hypertension;

    Sammanfattning : "Men born 1914" is a population based cohort study of the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease. Five hundred men, born 1914, were examined at the age of 68 and 185 of them were re-examined at 81 years of age. LÄS MER
