16. Sequence- and structure guided engineering of proteins and enzymes for biotechnology and health applications
Sammanfattning : Proteins are highly diverse and sophisticated biomolecules that represent a cornerstone of biological structure and function and have been exploited in man-made applications for thousands of years. Those proteins that facilitate chemical reactions at physiologically relevant time-scales are referred to as enzymes. LÄS MER
17. Small RNA-mediated Regulation of Gene Expression in Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : Non-coding RNAs are highly abundant regulators of gene expression in all kingdoms of life that often play important roles in vital cellular functions. In bacteria, small regulatory RNAs (sRNAs) usually act post-transcriptionally by regulating mRNAs through base pairing within ribosome binding sites (RBS), thereby inhibiting translation initiation. 18. Structure of Small Icosahedral Viruses
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents structural studies on the plant virus Ryegrass mottle virus (RGMoV), the bacteriophage φCb5, and the icosahedral particles and octahedral crystal assembly of a bacteriophage MS2 coat protein mutant. In contrast to other sobemoviruses, the RGMoV coat protein is missing several residues in two of the loop regions important for capsid assembly. LÄS MER
19. Ribosomal RNA Modification Enzymes : Structural and functional studies of two methyltransferases for 23S rRNA modification in Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : Escherichia coli ribosomal RNA (rRNA) is post-transcriptionally modified by site-specific enzymes. The role of most modifications is not known and little is known about how these enzymes recognize their target substrates. LÄS MER
20. Adenovirus for Cancer Therapy : With a Focus on its Surface Modification
Sammanfattning : Adenovirus serotype 5 (Ad5) is widely used as an oncolytic agent for cancer therapy. However, its infectivity is highly dependent on the expression level of coxsackievirus-adenovirus receptor (CAR) on the surface of tumor cells. LÄS MER
