1. A Comprehensive Approach to Modeling and Control of Thermomechanical Pulping Processes
Sammanfattning : The central issue of the thesis is modeling and control of the Thermomechanical Pulp (TMP) process in which large refiners are used to produce pulp for newsprint. The TMP process is one of the most complex and versatile, electricity consuming industrial processes today. LÄS MER
2. Walking ability, balance and accidental falls in persons with Multiple Sclerosis
Sammanfattning : By using a pragmatic paradigm, different research methodologies were employed in this thesis. MS-related symptoms may be exaggerated due to heatsensitivity and it is supposed that cooling garments relieve the symptoms. LÄS MER
3. Balance performance in people with Parkinson’s disease. Effects of subthalamic Deep Brain Stimulation
Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this work were to investigate if Deep Brain Stimulation in the subthalamic nuclei (STN) affected balance, fear of falling and falls in people with Parkinson's disease. The effect of STN stimulation alone was investigated in Papers I, II and III. LÄS MER
4. Movement Control after Stroke : Studies on Sit-to-walk and on the Relations between Clinical and Laboratory Measures
Sammanfattning : Aims: The principal aims of this research were 1) to extend existing knowledge of the everyday sit-to-walk (STW) transfer in subjects with stroke and in matched controls by exploring temporal, kinematic, and kinetic aspects, and 2) to investigate the relations between some clinical and laboratory measures of postural control and locomotion in stroke rehabilitation and research. Methods: Ten community-living subjects with stroke (mean age 59 years) and ten matched controls were enrolled in the STW studies (Studies I, II, and IV). LÄS MER
5. Postural balance, anxiety and motor function after stroke, at a very early supported discharge with continued rehabilitation
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate postural balance, anxiety and motor function the first year after stroke and whether postural balance, anxiety and motor function was different at the intervention of Very Early Supported Discharge (VESD) com-pared to routine discharge during the first year post stroke. Methods. LÄS MER
