  1. 1. Attraction and Rejection : On the love–hate relationship between stars and black holes

    Författare :Emanuel Gafton; Stephan Rosswog; Tamara Bogdanović; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : Solitary stars wandering too close to the supermassive black hole at the centre of their galaxy may become tidally disrupted, if the tidal forces due to the black hole overcome the self-gravity holding the star together. Depending on the strength of the encounter, the star may be partially disrupted, resulting in a surviving stellar core and two tidal arms, or may be completely disrupted, resulting in a long and thin tidal stream expected to fall back and circularize into an accretion disc (the two cases are illustrated on the cover of this thesis). 2. 2. Science Parks and talent attraction : a study on the development of Science Parks

    Författare :Eduardo de Almeida Cadorin; Magnus Klofsten; Hans Löfsten; Mats Lundqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Science Parks; Talent attraction; New technology-based firms; Students; University; University-external collaboration; Success factors; Parques científicos; Atração de talentos; Novas empresas baseadas em tecnologia; Estudantes; Universidade; Colaboração externa-universidade; Fatores de sucesso; Science Parks; Talangattraktion; Nya teknikbaserade företag; Studenter; Universitet; Universitet-externt samverkan; Framgångsfaktorer;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates the development of Science Parks (SPs) from the perspective of talent attraction activities. Studies on SPs often address only traditional services that parks provide tenant firms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Odour-mediated nectar foraging in the silver Y moth, Autographa gamma

    Författare :Dainius Plepys; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; predation risk; Noctuidae; Lepidoptera; flight tunnel; GC-EAD; single sensillum; sprayer; ultrasound; floral volatiles; attraction; foraging; mate-finding; lilac aldehydes; olfactory receptor neurones; Ecology; Ekologi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : It is well established that floral odours play a significant role in the nectar foraging behaviour in Lepidoptera and other insect orders. Floral odour may elicit searching, alighting and feeding behaviours alone or in concert with visual stimuli. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Movement patterns and displacement of a soil insect

    Författare :Elna Nilsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; attraction; repellence; fatty acid; Ecology; Ekologi; alarm; autoregressive model; autocorrelation; random walk; Protaphorura armata; Collembola; migration; dispersal; movement; displacement;

    Sammanfattning : Movement and dispersal are important determinants of the spatial distribution and persistence of animal populations in a heterogeneous environment. I studied the small-scale movement pattern of a soil-living insect, Protaphorura armata (Collembola) by using a video-equipment. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neural Interfaces to the Odour World of Scarab Beetles

    Författare :Mattias Larsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Djurekologi; Animal ecology; Intra; Antennal lobe; CNS; Attraction; Olfactometer; Behaviour; Mass spectrometry; Gas chromatography; Electrophysiology; Single sensillum; Receptor neuron; Plant volatile; Sex pheromone; Neuroethology; Odour detection; Olfaction; Coleoptera; Scarabaeidae; Entomology; plant parasitology; Entomologi; växtparasitologi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : Antennal detection and central nervous integration of behaviourally relevant odours in scarab beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) was investigated, using the two Japanese scarabs Anomala cuprea and Phyllopertha diversa (Rutelinae), and the Central African fruit chafer Pachnoda marginata (Cetoniinae) as model species.
