21. A strategy to identify novel antimicrobial compounds : a bioinformatics and HTS approach
Sammanfattning : Bacterial infections are again becoming difficult to treat because the microbes are growing increasingly resistant to the antibiotics in use today. The need for novel antimicrobial compounds is urgent and to achieve this new targets are crucial. In this thesis we present a strategy for identification of such targets via a bioinformatics approach. LÄS MER
22. Antimicrobial potential of Geobacillus sp. ZGt-1 isolated from Zara hot spring in Jordan : Piecing the puzzle of the antagonistic activity of a novel bacterial strain
Sammanfattning : The problem of antibiotic resistance is rising continuously, creating a warning signal that calls for finding alternatives. Not only that, but there is also a rising demand for natural food preservatives. The pharmaceutical and food industry sectors are working on fulfilling these needs. This thesis is exploring possible solutions to these issues. LÄS MER
23. STRUCTURAL, FUNCTIONAL AND EVOLUTIONARY STUDIES OF ANTIMICROBIAL PEPTIDES
Sammanfattning : Antimicrobial peptides represent a heterogeneous group that displays multiple modes of action such as bacteriostatic, microbicidal and cytolytic properties that are sequence and concentration dependent. Life threatening infectious disease is now a worldwide crisis and treating them effectively is becoming difficult day by day, due to the emergence of antibiotic resistant strains at alarming rates. 24. Surveillance of Antibiotic Consumption and Antibiotic Resistance in Swedish Intensive Care Units
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Nosocomial infections remain a major cause of mortality and morbidity. The problem is most apparent in intensive care units (ICUs). Most ICU patients are compromised and vulnerable as a result of disease or severe trauma. One in ten people admitted to hospital is given an antibiotic for infection. LÄS MER
25. Antibacterial materials for wound care applications utilizing antimicrobial peptides
Sammanfattning : The spread of antibiotic resistance among bacteria has shown that the development of alternative treatments of infections is of vital importance. This thesis has looked at one potential candidate, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), as an alternative or compliment to traditional antibiotics. LÄS MER
