1. Modelling animal populations
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers, three papers about modelling animal populations and one paper about an area integral estimate for solutions of partial differential equations on non-smooth domains. The papers are: I. Å. Brännström, Single species population models from first principles. LÄS MER
2. Weighing Animal Lives : A Critical Assessment of Justification and Prioritization in Animal-Rights Theories
Sammanfattning : The project underlying this dissertation aims at analyzing three pro-animal-rights theories, evaluating the theories, and outlining an alternative theoretical account of animal rights. The analytical categories are justification and function of animal rights, the definition of the right holder, and the resolution approach to rights conflict. LÄS MER
3. Quantitative Genetics and Genome Structure in a Wild Population: the Use of a Great Reed Warbler Pedigree
Sammanfattning : Long-term studies of birds play an important role in the understanding of quantitative traits in natural populations. The relative ease by which individual birds can be monitored and caught in the wild enable us collect detailed information from individuals throughout their life time, sometimes from several generations in a population. 4. Novel Treatment Modalities for High-Risk Neuroblastoma : Studies in Animal Models
Sammanfattning : Neuroblastoma, the most common extracranial solid tumor of childhood, is a heterogeneous tumor. In some patients, the tumor can go into spontaneous regression and disappear whereas other patients have rapidly growing tumors with a poor prognosis. LÄS MER
5. An animal model of sport related concussive brain injury
Sammanfattning : A new animal model for concussion of the type seen in professional football was developed, since current animal models did not simulate these conditions. The model is characterized by a high velocity-low mass impact to the head of a freely moving object. Structural damages and functional effects of the model have been investigated. LÄS MER
