  1. 1. Targeting the prostate tumor microenvironment and vasculature : the role of castration, tumor-associated macrophages and pigment epithelium-derived factor

    Författare :Sofia Halin; Anders Bergh; Pernilla Wikström; Stina Rudolfsson; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; angiogenesis; castration therapy; microenvironment; stroma; tumor-associated macrophages; pigment epithelium-derived factor; PEDF; vasculature; Pathology; Patologi; patologi; Pathology;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among Swedish men. For patients with metastatic prostate cancer the standard therapy is castration, a treatment that initially provides symptomatic relief but unfortunately is not curative. New therapeutic targets for advanced prostate cancer are therefore needed. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The pathological process behind abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) formation is poorly understood and difficult to study. The aim of the thesis was to study the pathophysiology of AAA formation with positron emission tomography (PET) technology, a molecular imaging technique, allowing in vivo studies of pathophysiological changes. 3. 3. VEGF-mediated vascular functions in health and disease

    Författare :Ziquan Cao; Eric Wahlberg; Yihai Cao; Toste Länne; Kayoko Hosaka; Jack L. Arbiser; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis is essential for physiological processes including embryonic development, tissue regeneration, and reproduction. Under various pathological conditions the same angiogenic process contribute to the onset, development, and progression of many human diseases including cancer, diabetic complications, ocular disease, chronic inflammation and cardiovascular disease. 4. 4. Long-term neurogenesis after stroke in the adult rat brain

    Författare :Pär Thored; Lund Neurologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; embryologi människa ; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Utvecklingsbiologi; teratologi; embryology human ; ontogeny; Development biology; teratology; Stroke; Stem Cells; Neurogenesis; neurofysiologi; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi; Neurologi; neuropsykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability for which there is no treatment for functional recovery. Following stroke, striatal neurogenesis is increased, with newly formed neuroblasts migrating towards the damage. This response has so far been considered acute and transient. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Angiogenic growth factors : mechanism of action and function in vascular development

    Författare :Charlotte Rolny; Andrius Kazlauskas; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The mature vascular system is composed of a network of blood vessels organized into arteries, capillaries, and veins. The vessels are composed of endothelial cells surrounded by smooth muscle cells and embedded in a specialized basement membrane. LÄS MER
