1. Multifunctionality and Durability of Cellulosic Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites
Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis is to develop and evaluate cellulose-based fiber composites with added multifunctionality for advanced applications. In the strive towards sustainable societies and industries, materials as well as production processes need to be assessed against the sustainability criteria and selected accordingly. LÄS MER
2. Ordered arrays of low-dimensional Au and Pd : synthesis and in situ observations
Sammanfattning : Electrodeposition of metals in templates of nano-porous anodic aluminum oxide (NP-AAO) is a versatile way of fabricating ordered arrays of metal nanowires. Thanks to the self-arranged long-range hexagonal order of the pores, electrodeposition in NP-AAO is an easily scalable bottom-up synthesis route and an attractive alternative to traditional top-down fabrication methods such as electron beam lithography. 3. Kinetic Measurements Using Nanoplasmonic Sensing
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the nanoplasmonic sensing technique was used to study kinetics of (i) the oxidation of Al nanoparticles in air and water and (ii) the solid-liquid phase transition in Sn nanoparticles. The nanoplasmonic sensing technique detects changes of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in metal nanoparticles. LÄS MER
4. Surface reactivity, stability, and mobility of metal nanoparticles in aqueous solutions : Influence of natural organic matter and implications on particle dispersion preparation
Sammanfattning : The growing development of nanotechnology has resulted in an increased use of nanoparticles (NPs) in various applications ranging from medicine, military, to daily consumer products. There is a concern that NPs can be dispersed into the environment in various ways, for example to air and water during manufacture, use, incineration or recycling of products and thus pose a risk to health and the environment. 5. Nanoplasmonic Sensing for Materials Science
Sammanfattning : With the rising importance of nanoscience and nanotechnology, there is a need for new sensitive and easy-to-use characterization techniques able to follow processes at the nanoscale. In this thesis different aspects of nanoplasmonic sensing for studying materials science processes at the nanoscale are demonstrated and discussed for the following model systems: oxidation/corrosion of Al and Cu and the solid-liquid phase transition of Sn.
