  1. 1. Offshore wind farms - ecological effects of noise and habitat alteration on fish

    Författare :Mathias H. Andersson; Sören Nylin; Magnus Wahlberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; renewable energy; fish population; artificial reef; attraction vs. production; habitat structure; reef effect; FAD; bioacoustics; noise disturbance; fish behaviour; detection range; threshold; masking; fish communication and hearing; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : There are large gaps in our understanding how fish populations are affected by the anthropogenic noise and the alteration of habitat caused by the construction and operation of offshore wind farms. These issues are of great importance as the construction of offshore wind farms will increase all over the world in the near future. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Migration and quality of landlocked Atlantic salmon smolt : Implications for conservation and management

    Författare :Johnny R Norrgård; Eva Bergman; Larry A Greenberg; Monika Schmitz; Martyn Lucas; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acoustic telemetry; hatchery; life history; migration mortality; regulated rivers; Salmo salar; salmon; smolt; trout; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Atlantic salmon Salmo salar has a complex life cycle, including long migrations and habitat shifts for both juveniles and adults. As such, salmon populations are vulnerable to habitat degradation and fragmentation along their migratory routes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Landlocked Atlantic salmon Salmo salar L. and trout Salmo trutta L. in the regulated River Klarälven, Sweden : Implications for conservation and management

    Författare :Johnny R Norrgård; Eva Bergman; Hans Lundqvist; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Conservation and management of migratory salmonids requires an understanding of their ecology at multiple scales, and a holistic view, including assessment of historical and present anthropogenic impacts. In the regulated River Klarälven, with 11 hydropower dams, populations of landlocked Atlantic salmon Salmo salar and migratory brown trout Salmo trutta have declined due to human activities. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Fish in the coastal seascape : exploring ecological processes and connectivity for conservation of temperate fish communities

    Författare :Thomas Staveley; Martin Gullström; Mats Björk; Regina Lindborg; Emma Jackson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; seascape ecology; landscape ecology; seagrass; marine habitats; fish; spatial analysis; connectivity; conservation; Sweden; temperate; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The need to understand patterns and processes in the marine environment has never been so profound as today, particularly as anthropogenic pressures upon coastal regions are drastically affecting habitats and species across a vast range. One approach to further understand these patterns and processes is through the use of seascape ecology methods. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ecology and Conservation of the Baltic Proper Harbour Porpoise

    Författare :Ida Carlén; Anders Angerbjörn; Julia Carlström; Martin Biuw; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Harbour porpoise; Baltic Sea; distribution; abundance; bycatch; conservation policy; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The Baltic Proper harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) population is listed by IUCN as Critically Endangered, but conservation action has been lacking for decades, partly due to very limited knowledge on important ecological parameters such as distribution range and abundance. This thesis provides some of the information needed for implementing effective conservation.
