  1. 1. Silicon Nanopore Arrays : Fabrication and Applications for DNA Sensing

    Författare :Miao Zhang; Jan Linnros; Meni Wanunu; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nanopore; array; electrochemical etching; DNA; optics; thermophoresis;

    Sammanfattning : Nanopore biomolecule sensing and sequencing has emerged as a simple but powerful tool for single molecule studies over the past two decades. By elec- trophoretically driving single molecules through a nanometer-sized pore, often sitting in an insulating membrane that separates two buffer solutions, ionic current blockades can be detected to reveal rich information of the molecules, such as DNA length, protein size and conformation, even nucleic acid se- quence. Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a novel approach to integrate chemical vapor deposition (CVD) graphene into silicon micro- and nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS) to fabricate different graphene based MEMS/NEMS structures and explore mechanical properties of graphene as well as their applications such as acceleration sensing, humidity sensing and CO2 sensing. The thesis also presents a novel method of characterization of CVD graphene grain boundary based defects. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Root surface conditioning in periodontal treatment

    Författare :Johan Blomlöf; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :citric acid; collagen; EDTL; etching; monkey; periodontal healing; periodolntitis; phosphoric acid; root planing; scanning electron microscopy; smearlayer; ultrasonic scaling; vitality. ISBN: 91-628-2646-8;

    Sammanfattning : Marginal periodontal healing following both invasive and non-invasive therapies is influenced by a large number of systemic and local factors. In order to optimize healing, a lot of effort is put into minimizing possible sources of infection both in performing different periodontal therapies as well as during the healing period. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Dentin surface conditioning : the role of collagen in dentin bonding

    Författare :Andreas Cederlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Preparation of dental cavities inevitably produces a thin layer of smear, which covers dentin and enamel surfaces. This smear layer, which is between 1 and 10 gm thick, consists of hydroxyapatite, denatured collagen and remnants of cariogenic bacteria. If left untouched, it will weaken the bond between filling material and cavity wall. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies on the remineralization of white spot lesions : longitudinal assessment with quantitative light-induced fluorescence

    Författare :Susan Al-Khateeb; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The global aim of this work was to develop and test the light induced fluorescence method using either laser light or a regular, i.e. noncoherent light source for quantification of mineral changes in white spot lesions. Validation studies were carried out to establish the correlation between fluorescence loss and mineral loss. LÄS MER
