  1. 1. 5-HT2A : a serotonin receptor with a possible role in joint diseases

    Författare :Anders Kling; Solbritt Rantapää-Dahlqvist; Carl-Olav Stiller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 5-HT2A serotonin receptor; serotonin; rheumatoid arthritis; adverse drug reaction; HTR2A; glucocorticoids; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundSerotonin (5-HT), an amino acid derivative and neurotransmitter, has for long been studied in relation to inflammation. It is an endogenous ligand for several different types of serotonin receptors. The serotonin receptor 5-HT2A has been reported to have a role in the pathophysiology of arthritis in animal experiment models. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Serotonergic receptor subtypes in learning and memory : focus on 5-HT1A, 5-HT1B and 5-HT2A receptors

    Författare :Maria Lüttgen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Serotonin; 5-HT1A receptor; 5-HT1B receptor; 5-HT2A receptor; acetylcholine; NMDA receptor; water maze; passive avoidance; septum; hippocampus; teaming; memory; immunohistochemistry; mRNA;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study how serotonin (5-HT) receptor subtypes can influence hippocampus/amygdala-dependent teaming and memory using the water maze (WM) and the passive avoidance (PA) tasks in rodents, and to provide a cellular correlate to the behavioral results using histochemical methods. Glutamatergic neurons in the trisynaptic circuit of the hippocampus are believed to be important for spatial teaming and memory as well as synaptic plasticity. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Functional Models in the Search for Pharmacological Treatment of Urinary Incontinence : The Role of Adrenergic, Cholinergic, and Serotonergic Receptors

    Författare :Ali-Reza Modiri; Karl-Erik Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Stress incontinence and overactive bladder are disorders with a common symptom, urinary incontinence, which is a serious medical and social handicap. Several neurotransmitters regulate the function of the lower urinary tract, including noradrenaline, acetylcholine, and serotonin. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Distribution of serotonin receptors and transporters in the human brain : implications for psychosis

    Författare :Katarina Varnäs; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :5-HT receptors; autoradiography; in situ hybridization histochemistry; psychotic disorders;

    Sammanfattning : The serotonin (5-HT) system is thought to be involved in different psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety disorders, and is a major target for the pharmacological treatment of these conditions. The involvement of the 5-HT system in psychosis has been suggested, as 5-HT receptor agonism is a common mechanism of different classes of hallucinogenic drugs and several antipsychotics are 5-HT receptor antagonists. 5. 5. Development of positron emission tomography radioligands for the dopaminergic and serotonergic neurotransmission systems

    Författare :Camilla Lundkvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :PET; Radioligand; Dopamine transporter; Serotonin transporter; 5-HT1A receptor; 5-HT2A receptor;

    Sammanfattning : The dopaminergic and serotonergic neurotransmission systems are of central interest in relation to several neuropsychiatric disorders. The main objectives were to develop new suitable radioligands for positron emission tomography (PET) examinations of the dopamine transporter (DAT) as well as the serotonin 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A-receptors.
