  1. 1. 3D Verification of Dynamic and Breathing Adapted Radiotherapy using Polymer Gel Dosimetry

    Författare :Sofie Ceberg; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiotherapy; 3D verification; polymer gel;

    Sammanfattning : Polymer gel dosimetry has been used since the 1990s, and several studies have shown that this detector system can be used for verification of static absorbed dose distributions in three dimensions (3D). Its unique properties, such as high resolution, normal tissue equivalence and independency of energy, field size and direction of the incident radiation, should also be advantageous for dosimetric verification of radiotherapy using today’s and tomorrow’s dynamic delivery techniques. Sammanfattning : In many radiotherapy applications, true three-dimensional dosimetry with good spatial resolution that can be achieved in a single measurement would be of great value. Polymer gel dosimetry fulfils many of the demands on such a system. In this study, methods to facilitate the implementation of gel dosimetry have been investigated. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is one of the main causes of death in the world, particularly in developing countries and is considered as a major public health problem. Radiation therapy has been an important modality for treatment of cancer for many decades. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Production of high quality 11C beams for radiation treatment and accurate PET-CT dose delivery verification

    Författare :Marta Lazzeroni; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Radiation therapy with external beams of positron emitter light ions offers the optimal solution for simultaneously treating and in vivo monitoring the delivery of the dose in 3D with Positron Emission Tomography (PET) or PET-Computed Tomography (CT) imaging. Specifically, positron emitter light ion beams merge the main distinctive advantages of light ion therapy, namely a high conformal and biological effective dose delivery to the tumor, an optimal penumbra, and sparing of the surrounding normal tissues, with the advantage of a high β+-activity signal mainly produced directly by the beam itself, and therefore not primarily dependent on the specific stoichiometry of the body tissues. 5. 5. MRI evaluation and image processing in gel dosimetry. A study of selected MRI properties and image processing in 3D gel dosimetry

    Författare :Peter Magnusson; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk fysiologi; medical instrumentation; tomography; radiology; Clinical physics; image registering; multi-slice; slice profile; ferrous sulphate; polyacrylamide; 3D volume acquisition; RF field; B1 field; relaxation time; T1; T2; spin-echo; multi-spin-echo; stochastic noise; nonuniformity; SNR; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; Radiopharmaceutical technology; Radiofarmaceutisk teknik; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Gel dosimetry is a new dosimetry method applied in radiation therapy. Gel dosimeters consist of a radiation sensitive gel, which can integrate absorbed doses from several radiation sources or beams. The dose to the gel can be evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a procedure that is the focus of the present thesis. LÄS MER
