  1. 1. Control of human papillomavirus type 1 late mRNA stability and translation by an AU-rich RNA element

    Författare :Marcus Sokolowski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; HPV-1; HPV-16; late genes; 3´ UTR; L1; L2; c-fos; AU rich element; HuR; hnRNP C1 C2; mRNA stability; translation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human Papillomaviruses (HPVs) infect the epithelial tissues in humans and infection with certain high-risk types is associated with cancer. The expressionof the HPV late capsid genes is dependent on cell differentiation. This may be one reason for the lack of HPV replication in vitro. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Regulation of Human Papillomavirus Type 16 mRNA Splicing and Polyadenylation

    Författare :Xiaomin Zhao; Stefan Schwartz; Barklie Clements; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; human papillomavirus type 16; gene regulation; splicing; polyadenylation; 3 UTR; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV-16) is the major causative agent of cervical cancer. The life cycle of this oncogenic DNA tumour virus is strictly associated with the differentiation program of the infected epithelial cells. Expression of the viral capsid genes L1 and L2 can only be detected in the terminally differentiated epithelial cells. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cellular proteins binding to the HCV 5' and 3' UTRs

    Författare :Karin Spångberg; Ingemar Ernberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Hepatitis C virus; RNA-binding proteins; mRNA stability; translation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a worldwide health problem with more than 170 million people infected by the virus. About 80% become chronic carriers, which may result in hepatocellular carcinoma. The lack of an in vitro cell culture system that allows propagation of the virus has hampered the development of a vaccine or anti-viral drugs against HCV. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Influence of cisplatin on RNA structure in solution Escherichia coli tRNA(Ala) and human Wnt-5a 3' UTR model system studies

    Författare :Pal Papsai; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biokemi; metabolism; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; tRNA.; siRNA; probing RNA structure in solution; alanyl-tRNA synthetase; cisplatin;

    Sammanfattning : RNA molecules in the cellular environment have several important functions. In many cases, proper RNA function is intimately linked to proper three-dimensional structure of the molecule. Thus, it seems reasonable to assume that structural changes caused by external influence can strongly inhibit important cellular functions maintained by RNAs. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Role of the 3'UTR in translation and stability of HCV and HPV mRNAs

    Författare :Lisa Wiklund; Laszlo Szekely; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Hepatitis C virus; Human Papillomavirus; 3’ untranslated region; AU-rich sequence; mRNA stability; translation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Sammanfattning : Virus mRNAs can be divided into functional regions. The focus of this thesis will be to investigate the function of one of these regions, the 3’ untranslated region (UTR). The 3’UTR of HCV contains a U-rich element and the late 3’UTR of HPV-1 contains an AU-rich element. LÄS MER
