Sammanfattning: As a doctoral dissertation in Library and Information Studies at GöteborgUniversity in Sweden, this book has been published with the purpose ofbeing defended at a public event. It deals with information seeking in theeveryday life of research. Such an area of inquiry within Library andInformation Studies is known as user studies. The overall objective hasbeen to study the development of information seeking by researchersduring their formation. The link between the research content and the acquisitionof information has been considered meaningful. A label for acombination of this sort is a study of information seeking in context.The book is organised in the followingway. The research objectives includethe research problem, the terminologyand the presentation of theempirical area of study, that is businessadministration. The study of the researchliterature deals with user studies,research on research and Bourdieu’stheories. The theoretical issues onmethod are a topic for reflection. Theimplications of a change of understandinglead to a change of method. Objectivationof the objectifying subject as well as my own informationseeking efforts are included. The data collecting process and the analysisprocedure are described. Research results are presented in three ways.Three researchers at different levels tell their stories of informationseeking in their work. Analytical categories in research and informationseeking are presented along two paths together with pertinent estimateson levels and intensities. At the end of both paths syntheses of intellectualand social assets are carried out. These syntheses are compared inthe light of Bourdieu’s embracing theory. The appendices include abbreviations,term list, check lists and introductory letters. There are twoindices: an illustration index and an index of persons and subjects. Thesummary reflects the given sequence of chapters.
